The 'Academy In The UK : 30 Years of Punk' festival at the Glasgow Carling Academy was a bit of a shambles, with poor sound quality, faulty microphones, unintentional feedback problems, lengthy stage set-ups and over-ran so badly that The Damned had their set cut to around 30 minutes (unlike headliners The Rezillos ! [why they were top of the bill I've no idea, cos they were local perhaps]).
Stars of the night were The Beat and The Damned, but both had sound problems, although they fared better than The Meteors, who sounded like they were playing inside a skip...such a shame, as what they played was brilliant... (excellent to see some classic Psychobilly, complete with flame-covered double bass).
GBH were noisy and gallus, but the crowd seemed bored...
Oh, and The Damned had excellent back-projections...clips from Nosferatu, Freaks...and The Producers ! ...and they played great versions of LOVE's "Alone Again Or" and Elton Motello's "Jetboy, Jetgirl", along with classics like "New Rose" and "Smash It Up"
