Employing the talents of the Glasgow based MISCHIEF core group, as well as established performers from throughout Europe, Painful Creatures premiered at BIG IN FALKIRK, and toured the UK...Then the show was taken to Europe, with TV coverage in Sotteville, France and Graz, Austria. In each place we visited, local performers added to our "Unfairground" and more than 100,000 people entered our world as spectators.

Alex Rigg, creator of THE WICKERMAN FESTIVAL's centrepiece, added fire to the procedings with a spectacular finale, complete with BURNING MARTYR, choreographed to Ronan Breslin's superb music.

At Mischief HQ (WASPS Studios) Glasgow, we built a vast number of props and sets for the performance...This Galleon, complete with sails and figurehead was lured by a siren, and occasionally crashed into a tree!

Artistic Director, Ian Smith, devised the show, around the theme of PAIN: His sketches were brought to life by the skills of the creative team and performers such as Empress Stah Powers

Stah is more used to hanging upside down, in clubs such as London's TORTURE GARDEN

In PAINFUL CREATURES, Stah was Medusa, contained in a room full of mirrors !

Other gruesome sites that greeted those brave enough to enter the UNFAIRGROUND included the martyr Saint Sebastian; tied to a tree and pierced with arrows, a grizly crime scene, (featuring the Psychobilly sounds of SurfGarageRock&Rollers THE STAGGERS), a military checkpoint; where torture produced confessions, and a field containing 100 bleached heads on 100 wooden stakes !

Guiding the wary spectators, were the sinister, whip-cracking carnies; tarot cards determined who would survive the ordeal !
