Fuelled by beer, electric soup laced with diamond white, and a Tunnocks Caramel Log, THE BLIMP quickly won over those who hadn't sampled their Clydeside Rawkfunk sound before; Ray's Hammond sounded fantastic in the space, and "Jumpin' Through The Park" was a pure belter, as was "Rizla" with it's stoned "Thank you Barrowlands, there will be no encore" ending..."Kwallity!" as the local beside me put it...
QUINN
Tables with candles, and seated punters created a cosy atmosphere for QUINN. A screen displaying atmospheric visuals provided ambience. The crowd was soon captivated by first number "Astronauts", and the songs from new album "LUSS" which followed. Louise sang and played with impressive confidence, and the rest of the band were all given their opportunity to shine. Charlie and Robert's keyboard playing switched from Electronica, to Jazz, Trip-Hop, and even Glam Rock.
A percussion break, with great use of cowbells, was my personal favourite section of an excellent set, and the layer upon layer crescendo of "The World Is Upside Down", with Robert's incredible trumpet playing, gained the band genuine, warm applause and praise.
An impressive night then, from two top bands, and a great indication of what Club Tromolo has in store on Feb 16th
